Keep water running (sewer and water lines). Keeping a small stream of water flowing (hot or cold) can help the lines from freezing.
Insulate exposed pipes and equipment. Pay close to any pipes that may be located inside or near external walls.
Use space heaters.
Heat lines can be installed inside pipe to prevent freezing. They can be used in a number of applications including, but not limited to, lake cabins, homes, or farms.
For septic tanks, pump basins or underground water cisterns, insulated lids can provide an added layer of protection. They can be made using insulation foam or prefabricated lids are available for purchase.
Above-ground pumps should be in a heated pump house in locations where temperatures can drop below freezing. If a heating unit is not in place, a space heater hooked to a thermocube outlet will do. If the pump is outdoors, then it will almost certainly freeze.
Use frostproof hose bibs for outdoor faucets.
Frozen Lines & Equipment
Turn the heat up and open all under sink cabinets. Space heaters work well for this also.
Use torches and heat guns when safe. Hair dryers work well also, especially indoors.
Work from the source out so the water pressure helps clear the blockage.
