8 Tip for Every Sewage or Effluent Pump Owner

In today’s blog we give you some tips that can help save time and money when it comes to your sewage or effluent pump.

1. What is the pressure? Take a pressure reading when your pump is first installed so that you have a benchmark in the event that something goes wrong. Check for faulty check valves, pump, leaks, etc. If you are not sure how to check the pressure you can view our YouTube video by clicking here: 8 Things Every Sewage/Effluent Pump Owner Should Know

2. Keep your pump data in an easy to find location. Most pumps come with an extra sticker that contains all the same information that is on the nameplate. Stick your extra tag inside your control or breaker panel so that the model number and date of manufacture are easily accessible if needed for warranty or repair.

3. How good is my warranty? Eventually, you will need to replace your pump. When that day comes, buy a pump that has an easy warranty process, especially, if you are a do-it yourselfer. An easy to process warranty means you won’t have to spend loads of time chasing down a replacement if something goes wrong.

4. What type of upper bearing does the pump have? One quality that seems to separate high quality pumps from the rest would be the upper bearing. If you want to only remember one thing to look for without checking every option and feature then pay attention to the upper bearing. When a bushing is used this is an indication of a cheaper motor that will likely not last as long as one with upper ball bearing construction. A pump with superior ball bearing construction will decrease play in the shaft and, therefore, increase motor life.

5. Where should I buy my pump? Quality professional grade pumps can’t be purchase from a big box store such as Home Depot, Lowes, or Ace Hardware. Most professional grade pumps need to be purchased from a distributor. Most people don’t know that distributors can sell directly to the public. The easy way to get professional grade pumps is to shop with rcworst.com. We sell at competitive prices direct to the public and all our prices and stock levels are shown online.

6. Be proactive with ownership of your system: Ask questions, learn how it works, and know who you are going to call when things are not working. Knowing your system inside and out will help you save money and stay away from “Emergency Situations.”

7. Watch what you flush! Only flush toilet paper and human waste down the toilet. Don’t buy into the hype of the “flushable wipe” as they can easily clog your pump!

8. Know how to turn your pump on manually. If you have a control panel, most have a switch that will allow you to turn on the pump manually. The switch is commonly marked with M (manual), A (auto), and O (off). Check out yours so that you know where it is. If you do not have a control panel your pump may be controlled by a piggyback type switch. Remove the plug from the outlet and plug your pump in directly. If your switch is wired directly to the pump you will need to raise the float in order turn on the pump.
