Prevention Keep water running (sewer and water lines). Keeping a small stream of water flowing (hot or cold) can help the lines from freezing. Insulate exposed pipes and equipment. Pay close to any pipes that may be located inside or near external walls. Use space heaters. Heat lines can be installed inside pipe to prevent freezing.
